Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Motor Design Lead to play a pivotal role in our mission to design and develop state-of-the-art, patented axial flux electric motors. The Motor Design Lead will be responsible for leading the motor design activities including design, simulation DFM, testing and ensuring the development of efficient, high-performance, and reliable electric motors. This is a demanding, highly independent position that will spearhead and oversee engineering work related to optimizing Torev’s products at various power levels, development of new operating methodologies and iterations of Torev’s devices, and product implementation means and methods to meet customer needs across a variety of industries. This position will interface directly and actively with Torev’s customers, development partners, and senior management.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead Torev’s patented motor design and development projects for various customers along with platform establishment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define motor design requirements and specifications.
  • Oversee motor design projects from concept to production, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Develop electric drive unit design strategies that incorporate the latest technologies and manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct motor design analysis, simulations, and testing to optimize performance, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Solve complex drive unit design challenges and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in motor design.

Qualifications (Required)

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in electric motor design, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in axial flux electric motor design and development.
  • Strong proficiency in motor design software and simulation tools, such as ANSYS Maxwell 3D, SIEMENS 3D and analysis methods.
  • Extensive knowledge of electromagnetic principles, thermal management, and mechanical design.
  • Experience in manufacturing processes related to motor production.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • PhD in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in the automotive or aerospace industry.
  • Knowledge of finite element analysis (3D FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
  • Experience generating and writing patents or other intellectual property.
  • Experience working in a startup or scrum team environment.
  • Familiarity with regulations and standards related to electric motors.
